Permission was given for Agentleman (IRE) to be mounted on the course.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Joly Maker (IRE), ridden by Jonjo O'Neill Jr and trained by Jonjo O'Neill, which was ridden towards the rear of the field in the early stages, but having made up ground down the back straight on the final circuit then appeared to be conservatively handled in the closing stages to finish sixth, beaten by 16 lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated he had not been given any specific instructions as he knows Joly Maker (IRE) well and, as he is a buzzy sort, he had opted to drop in, get the gelding jumping and then creep into the race.
He added that Joly Maker (IRE) had settled well off the strong early pace and was in a good rhythm.
Furthermore, although his jumping was sketchy initially, it had improved the further the race developed and once the pace had slowed a little, but when the leaders kicked for home Joly Maker (IRE) was left flatfooted and his jumping deteriorated again.
However, he had been pleased with the way Joly Maker (IRE) had finished its race, contending that the gelding had only run on past beaten horses and he would recommend a step up in trip to 2 miles 4 furlongs.
The trainer added that the gelding is not straightforward at home and they are unable to school him so he was pleased with the run and was satisfied with how Joly Maker (IRE) had been ridden.
Their explanations were noted.
Following the race, the representative of Brian Ellison reported that Tim Rocco (GER), which started joint-favourite and finished unplaced, ran flat; the gelding was routine tested.
