Permission was given for Violette Szabo (IRE) to be mounted in the chute and go early to post.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of all beaten horses after the winner Calculus (IRE), ridden by Kieran Schofield had been allowed to establish a sizeable uncontested lead from approximately 1 mile out.
Oliver Stammers, the rider of Termonator (GB), placed second, Paul Mulrennan, the rider of Clan Jock (IRE), placed third, Tom Eaves, the rider of DANDY’S ANGEL (IRE), placed fourth, Oisin McSweeney, the rider of Masque Of Anarchy (IRE), placed fifth, Jason Hart, the rider of Haven Lady (IRE), placed sixth, Jonny Peate, the rider of Iron Sheriff (IRE), unplaced, Faye McManoman, the rider of Violette Szabo (IRE), unplaced, and Billy Garritty, the rider of Elena De La Vega (GB), unplaced, were all interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
Hart stated his instructions were to be handy but was unable to do so as he became caught in a pocket behind horses.
Stammers stated his instructions were to sit handy and if there was no pace to go on and make the running.
Peate and Eaves’ instructions were to drop in and settle their mounts as it was their first run stepping up in trip to 1m4f.
Mulrennan’s instructions were to also drop in and ride Clan Jock (IRE) to be patient and arrive late and McManoman’s instructions were to get cover and not hit the front too soon as the filly is very one-paced before further adding that Violette Szabo (IRE) became caught in a pocket from the early stages of the race.
Finally, Garritty’s instructions were to sit handy but was unable to keep up with the pace and was the first horse to be asked for an effort.
All riders were of the opinion that when Calculus (IRE) took up the running the gelding appeared to be running freely at a pace which they felt was unsustainable, believing that Calculus (IRE) would weaken and come back to them in a latter stage of the race.
They further added that their mounts would not have finished any closer had they asked them for an effort from further out.
Having heard their evidence, all the rider’s explanations were noted.
Kieran Schofield, the rider of the winner, Calculus (IRE), was suspended for 2 days for using his whip above the permitted level from approximately 3 furlongs out.
