An enquiry was held to consider why Tom Cannon, the rider of Sky Full Of Stars (IRE), which was pulled up along the back straight, had continued to jump a further fence when his horse appeared to lose its action.
Cannon was interviewed and recordings of the incident were viewed.
Cannon explained that when he felt the gelding lose its action he made the decision to pull up, but was prevented from doing so as there were a large number of runners on his inside and the next fence was in close proximity, meaning he could not pull up safely before jumping it.
He further explained that after having negotiated the fence he was able to immediately pull up.
His explanation was accepted.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post- race examination of Sky Full Of Stars (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
