Permission was given for Simply Blue (GB) and Passing Phase (GB) to both wear a red hood to the start.
The Starter reported that I Can Boogy (GB) refused to enter the stalls and was withdrawn at 2:08pm.
Nigel Tinkler was informed that the filly could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.
An enquiry was held to consider interference rounding the first bend involving Bretton Wood (GB), placed fifth, ridden by Callum Shepherd; Passing Phase (GB), placed sixth, ridden by Tom Marquand; The Flying Seagull (IRE), placed third, ridden by Oisin Murphy; Far Above Mary (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Willaim Buick and the winner Teej A (IRE), ridden by Clifford Lee.
The interference was found to be accidental, in that Shepherd had taken reasonable precautions by looking on several occasions to ensure he was sufficiently clear on Bretton Wood (GB) to move left-handed in behind the leader Passing Phase (GB) and the film evidence clearly established that he was clear of the runners to his inside at this point in time.
However, as Shepherd edged his mount slightly left-handed, the leading duo of Passing Phase (GB) and Teej A (IRE) had steadied the pace at the same time as The Flying Seagull (IRE) and Far Above Mary (IRE) had improved their positions down the inner into a narrowing gap.
This resulted in Murphy having to check The Flying Seagull (IRE) when tightened up for racing room, which in turn resulted in Far Above Mary (IRE) being crowded for room on the rail before that filly then shifted right-handed when being restrained off the heels of Teej A (IRE), further exacerbating the interference already being suffered by The Flying Seagull (IRE).
