The winner, Global Melody (GB), appeared to show an improvement in form compared with its previous run at Kempton on 18 September 2020, where the gelding finished eleventh of twelve, beaten 11¼ lengths.
Phil McEntee explained that Global Melody (GB) appreciated the drop in grade on this occasion and benefitted from a return to Southwell where the gelding has won previously.
Global Melody (GB) was routine tested.
Leaving the stalls, Onebaba (IRE), placed fourth, jumped left at the same time as Puchita (IRE), placed third, jumped right, causing Northern Charm (GB), placed second, to be tightened for room and slowly into stride, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Following the race, Franny Norton reported that Northern Charm (GB), placed second, was hampered at the start and Robert Havlin reported that Passional (GB), placed fifth, hung left.
