At the seventh fence, Really Super (GB), which was later pulled up, made a jumping error and shifted right- handed, bumping Darling Maltaix (FR), which stumbled on landing and then slipped badly behind, almost falling before being quickly pulled up by its rider Harry Cobden.
After viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved; the Veterinary Officer subsequently reported that a post-race examination of Darling Maltaix (FR) found the gelding to be lame on both his left-fore and his right-hind.
Following the race, Jack Quinlan reported that Really Super (GB), was never travelling; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the mare failed to reveal any abnormalities.
