Following concerns raised by the riders regarding the low sun obscuring their vision at the two hurdles in the back straight, the Stewards consulted with the Clerk of the Course and ordered that these obstacles should be by-passed for this race.
Our Cilla (GB) collided with the running rail on leaving the parade ring.
Having been examined by the Veterinary Surgeon at the start, the mare was deemed fit to race.
At the end of the back straight, Our Promise (GB), unplaced, edged marginally left, causing Milanvera (IRE), placed fifth, to be moved slightly off its intended line, which in turn resulted in Diamond Rose (GB), placed third, being crowded for room on the rail, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved.
The winner, Hot Gossip (IRE), appeared to show an improvement in form compared with its previous run at Hexham on 25 October 2020 where the mare was pulled up.
The representative of Dianne Sayer explained that the mare may have appreciated being ridden more prominently on this occasion, and having not jumped fluently in the past, possibly benefitted from four of the ten hurdles being omitted due to low sun.
Her explanation was noted and Hot Gossip (IRE) was routine tested.
