The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, P.L. Malone, that S.W. Flanagan, rider of Ned's Island, had weighed in at 1.7lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he did not realise that he had to do 10 stone 7lbs. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that S.W. Flanagan was in breach of Rule 231 and therefore suspended him for 2 racedays having taken his previous record into consideration. Mr Michael Murphy, Acting Steward, did not attend this enquiry. The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, P.L. Malone, that Mr D.L. Queally, rider of Abbazagga, had weighed in at 1.4lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that it was a very light weight for him and despite dieting he had some water and a mineral before he rode. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Mr D.L. Queally was in breach of Rule 231 and therefore cautioned him as this was his first offence. Mr Michael Murphy, Acting Steward, did not attend this enquiry. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Successor, trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. J.J. Slevin, rider of Moroval trained by Henry de Bromhead, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount felt lame and was pulled up.
