An enquiry was held following a report from the Veterinary Officer that an unlabelled, used syringe had been found outside the stable of RAIL DANCER, trained by Shaun Keightley, after the gelding had left the course. The Veterinary Officer and Equine Welfare and Integrity Officer were interviewed and Keightley, who was not in attendance at the meeting, gave evidence via telephone. Having heard their evidence, the Stewards ordered the syringe to be tested and referred the matter to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority.
The performance of CALVINIST, which finished last of the thirteen runners, beaten by 24 lengths, was considered. Kevin Frost's explanation that the gelding had been unsuited by being trapped wide without cover from a wide draw, was noted. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of CALVINIST, during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Shortly after the start, RAASHDY (IRE), placed fifth, lugged right-handed, tightening the winner, SCRAFTON onto VALKENBURG, placed sixth, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
