The Veterinary Officer reported that upon inspection, Matamua (GB) was grey and not bay as published in the racecard.
Approximately 1 furlong after the start, a free running Arcadian Nights (GB), placed seventh, lurched right- handed, carrying Ron O (GB), unplaced, off its intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Arcadian Nights (GB).
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final furlong involving the winner, Muhalhel (IRE), ridden by Kieran O’Neill and Dickens (IRE), placed second, ridden by David Probert.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Muhalhel (IRE)’s placing as Dickens (IRE) had been moved off its line of running and had been unbalanced in the process when bumped twice by Muhalhel (IRE) which caused the horse to lose momentum and it cost it more than the nose by which it was beaten.
The placings were revised as follows: First, Dickens (IRE); Second, Muhalhel (IRE).
O’Neill was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he allowed his mount to drift left-handed without timely or sufficient correction, causing Dickens (RE) to become unbalanced.
