An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference approaching the final half a furlong involving the winner, Side Effect (GB), ridden by Andrew Mullen and Dashing Poet (GB), placed third, ridden by P J McDonald.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Side Effect (GB)’s placing as, although McDonald had had to switch, he had not lost sufficient momentum to account for the 1 length deficit at the line.
Mullen was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as he allowed his mount to hang left under a right-handed drive when insufficiently clear, causing McDonald to switch off the rail.
Following the race, Jonathan Fisher reported that Mametz Wood (IRE), placed fifth, wouldn't face the kickback having been slowly away.
