Permission was given for Precision Storm (GB) to wear a red hood to post.
The winner Precision Storm (GB), appeared to show improved form, compared with its previous run at Chester on 11 September 2020 where the gelding finished ninth of thirteen runners, beaten by 11 lengths.
Mark Loughnane’s explanation that the gelding had settled better in the preliminaries having worn a red hood to the start was noted.
Precision Storm (GB) was routine tested.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Fair Power (IRE), ridden by Oisin Murphy and trained by John Butler, which was settled towards the rear of the field after jumping awkwardly from the stalls before meeting interference rounding the home turn and then staying on under considerate handling in the home straight to finish eleventh of twelve runners, beaten by 5¾ lengths.
The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Murphy stated that his instructions were to make use of his good draw and go forward with a view to finding a position behind the leaders.
He explained that Fair Power (IRE) had anticipated the start, which caused the gelding to miss the break and ultimately resulted in him being much further back than intended.
He added that Fair Power (IRE) had then been unsuited by the steady pace throughout, which caused the gelding to run far too freely, a fact which was reported at Scales.
He further added that the race developed into a sprint from approaching the 2 furlong marker, and Fair Power (IRE) had been both denied a clear run approaching the bend and suffered interference on the bend when Hurricane Ali edged slightly right-handed in front of him, which caused the gelding to lose his position at a vital stage.
Murphy explained thereafter Fair Power (IRE)'s early exertions had taken their toll and resulted in the gelding having no more running to give in the home straight and for this reason he elected to ride a hands and heels finish to obtain the best possible placing.
The trainer’s representative confirmed the instructions and stated that although they were unable to be carried out due to the gelding missing the break, she was satisfied with the ride given in the circumstances.
Their explanations were noted.
