See also » Return-to-form-for-Room-To-Roam- that was a bit of a surprise. We know he has the ability, it’s just getting him on a going day really. Emily who rides him every day at home has done a great job on him, he was in good form and two miles on the Flat suited as he is a real stayer. I couldn’t believe how well he travelled out in front. I said I’d just keep it simple and let him roll. He did it well in the end. John C McConnell, trainer
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Imperial Choice, trained by C.Byrnes, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis
The Stewards interviewed Mr H.E. Sexton, rider of Dixon Line (GB), concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence, Mr H.E. Sexton stated that his mount was responding to the whip and accepted that through misjudgement he had exceeded the whip guidelines
He apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr H.E. Sexton was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency
Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended Mr H.E. Sexton for three racedays
The Stewards requested a report from John C. McConnell, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Room To Roam, placed first, as compared with its recent form under the Rules of Racing. John C. McConnell reported that his charge previously won under the Rules of Racing at Dundalk in 2016. He added that his charge had been ungenuine and ran over fences recently which in his opinion may have sweetened him for an improved run today. He added that he had no other explanation for this surprise victory. Having considered the explanation, the Stewards noted the content of the report
GENERAL INFORMATION The following Raceday Stewards acted on behalf of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board at this race meeting: Mr. Nicholas P. Lambert (Chairman), Mrs. Caroline Corballis, Mr. Maurice Carroll, Mr. Patrick Coveney, Mr. C.J. Sweeney
