The Raceday Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Mr. P.L. Malone, that D.P. Maxwell, rider of Roscomroe, had presented himself to weigh out at 2lbs overweight in addition to the declared 2lbs overweight which was made in accordance with the provisions of Rule 195(i). Evidence was heard from the rider concerned and from Mr. Raymond Loughnane, Authorised Representative for J.P. Broderick, trainer of Roscomroe. D.P
Maxwell accepted the report from the Clerk of the Scales and apologised for the overweight. He further added that he had expected to make the weight on his arrival at the track and could offer no explanation other than the possibility that his scales at home may not be working correctly. Having considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards allowed the overweight on this occasion at the request of the trainers Authorised Representative, as there was no other suitable rider available. They were, however, satisfied that D.P. Maxwell was in breach of both Rule 195(i)(b) and Rule 198(vii)(b) and having considered his record in this regard they issued a fine of €150 on this occasion
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Baldur's Gate, trained by Miss Denise Marie O'Shea, at the request of the Raceday Stewards and reported the animal to have a wound on the left hind pastern but was otherwise post race normal.
An extended handicap steeplechase for four years old and upwards rated 0-102 Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase after calculation of the handicap shall carry 7lb extra for each steeplechase won.
