The Stewards enquired into the circumstances surrounding the late arrival of D. O'Brien, the declared rider of Tremendous Leap (GB), necessitating a change of rider. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who explained that he was riding in the 4.50 race at Dundalk and had expected to make it on time as required, but he was unavoidably delayed. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Rule 196 and having taken his clean record in this regard into account, the Stewards imposed a fine of ?200 on the rider. Mr. John Murphy, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry
The Stewards requested a report from J. S. Bolger, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Signing Off, placed first, as compared with its most recent form. The trainer reported that his charge was slow to get into his rhythm when the race quickened and felt this had helped him stay on well in the closing stages, bringing about the apparent improvement in form. Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
An extended handicap for three yrs old and upwards rated 50-80 Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 6lb extra; for each race won.
