I thought he'd win and really fancied him as I knew he'd improve an awful lot from Quakerstown as he wasn't really fit. We had a few small problems and he has been hobdayed and he'll either go to Doncaster Sales or Killarney for a hunters chase next. He is named after a song from Johnny McEvoy which I love and that'll get some wallop tonight!. He's the only racehorse I have now although we have five show-jumpers for my daughter Tara. When the passport for this horse came back, Tara said 'what kind of an eejit are you - you misspelled his name!' but I did fail my English in the Leaving Cert! N F Glynn, trainer
Owing to the low lying sun, the Stewards granted permission for fences 3 and 4 to be omitted from this race The Stewards interviewed Mr E. Mahon, rider of Mabeywhoknowsmabey, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found Mr. E. Mahon to be in breach of Regulation 10.3(f) in that he used his whip with excessive frequency and Regulation 10.4 in that he used his whip without giving his mount time to respond. Having considered his record in this regard, the Stewards suspended Mr. E. Mahon for 7 race days and ordered him to attend RACE for 1 days tuition on the correct use of the whip
The Stewards interviewed Mr J.W. Hannon, rider of Oscar Contender, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr J.W. Hannon was in breach of R10(3)(f) by using his whip with excessive frequency and R10(4) by failing to give his mount time to respond to the whip
Having taken his good previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended Mr J.W. Hannon for 2 racedays.
