Jonathan England, the rider of the winner, Ninepointsixthree (GB), was interviewed regarding his use of the whip, where he appeared to use it in the back hand position when clearly winning, from after the last hurdle.
England explained that he was conscious of the gelding’s previous unruly behaviour passing the paddock exit, and he was unable to hear the proximity of other horses due to the very windy conditions.
Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the incident, the Stewards found he had not breached the Rules.
Following the race, Conor O’Farrell reported that Flowery (IRE), placed second, hung badly left.
