Sam Allwood could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance.

An enquiry was held into the ride of Duc De Beauchene (FR), ridden by Tom Scudamore and trained by David Pipe, in the home straight.
Tom Scudamore stated that his instructions were to ride the gelding patiently as he had done previously with success.
He added that he considered ASHDOWN LAD (IRE) to be the main danger in the contest and always intended to follow that horse into the race.
However, having jumped the second last slowly, he was unable to quicken with ASHDOWN LAD (IRE) and therefore rode the gelding hands and heels to the line.
His comments were noted.
Following the race, Miss Brodie Hampson reported that Premier D'troice (FR), which was pulled up, stopped quickly; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
