I imagine we might stick to novice hurdles at home with him and I think he'll appeciate much better ground too. He's a bit too honest and wants to race from flagfall but if we could teach him to settle, it would be much better. W P Mullins, trainer
The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Taglietelle (GB), placed fifth, ridden by P. Carberry, and trained by Gordon Elliott. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. P. Carberry stated that, having ridden him the last day where he was free and stopped quickly, his instructions were to drop his mount in mid division to rear of the field, get him settled and try get him to finish out his race. He said he was a bit keen again today over the first 3 hurdles and only got him settled down the backstraight. He stated that he was travelling well on turning in, but made a mistake at the third last hurdle and began making a respiratory noise from that moment on until the finish line where he gulped on pulling up. He stated that he used his whip in an effort to get him to finish as best he could, and thought he had obtained his best possible placing considering the noise his mount was making. He added that he made a post race report to the Clerk Of The Scales on weighing in to this effect. Gordon Elliott stated that he bought the horse off the flat in England in October and this was his second run for him and he wanted to see him finish out his race today, and having talked to his rider after dismounting, where he was informed of the respiratory noise made, he was satisfied with the ride. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Taglietelle (GB) was blowing hard post race. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, including the post race report to the Clerk Of The Scales by the rider and the post race veterinary report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered. Dr J.F. Gillespie, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry. K.M. Donoghue, rider of Royal Boru trained by Mrs Gillian Callaghan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a respiratory noise in running. P. Carberry, rider of Taglietelle (GB) trained by Gordon Elliott, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a respiratory noise in running. The Stewards interviewed P. Carberry, rider of Taglietelle (GB), placed fifth, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion P. Carberry was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (g) in that he used his whip with his arm above shoulder height and having taken his good record in this regard into account, they cautioned him accordingly.
