Jumbajukiba was given an enterprising ride by Fran Berry. He settled the five-year-old in front and quickened the pace inside the final quarter mile, stealing a march on his rivals. The pair eventually ran out a comfortable 3 ? length winner, but it is unlikely that they will be allowed a similar uncontested lead in future. Major Cadeaux and US Ranger looked the two to concentrate on beforehand, but by the time they got into top gear Jumbajukiba had flown.
The very testing ground is a legitimate excuse for all horses today and it would be unwise to put too much emphasis on this result. That said, Jumbajukiba has now won twice at group level and his career remains on an upward curve.
