An enquiry was held to consider why Jim Goldie was running Call Me Ginger (GB) here at Ascot on going described as Soft, having declared the gelding a non-runner at Ascot on 4 October 2019 on ground with the same official description.
The trainer stated that he had intended to run the gelding on both the Friday and the Saturday but after the rain on Friday, he felt it best to not run the gelding over 6f on Friday and only over 5f on Saturday.
Approximately 1 furlong out, Came From The Dark (IRE), placed second, shifted right carrying Camacho Chief (IRE), placed fourth, and Texting (GB), unplaced, on to Mercenary Rose (IRE), unplaced, as Tawny Port (GB), unplaced, shifted left causing Franny Norton, the rider of Mercenary Rose (IRE), to take a check, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
The performance of Alaadel (GB), which finished unplaced, was considered.
Stuart Williams' explanation that the gelding was unsuited by being slowly away over 5f was noted.
Following the race, Angus Villiers reported that Saaheq (GB), unplaced, hung left-handed under pressure, Franny Norton reported that Mercenary Rose (IRE), unplaced, suffered interference in running and Chris Wall's representative reported that Han Solo Berger (IRE), unplaced, was unsuited by the going, which was officially described as Soft on this occasion, and would prefer a quicker surface.
