The Stewards enquired into possible interference inside the final 150 yards involving Zola Sakura, ridden by C.T
Keane, placed second and Prince Of Verona (USA), ridden by James J. Doyle, placed first, where it appeared that Zola Sakura was tight for room when racing close to the running rail. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence, C.T. Keane stated that his mount was tightened from the 150 yard marker. James J
Doyle stated that his mount was wearing cheek pieces for a reason and he rolled in both directions in the closing stages. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that interference did take place but Prince Of Verona (USA) had not improved its placing in relation to Zola Sakura and therefore made no alteration to the Judges placings. The Stewards were of the opinion that James J. Doyle was in breach of Rule 214 by riding carelessly. Having taken his clean previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended James J. Doyle for four racedays.
C.T. Keane, rider of Zola Sakura trained by G.M.Lyons, reported to the Clerk of Scales that he had to snatch up his mount and was also intimidated inside the final 150 yards
James J. Doyle, rider of Prince Of Verona (USA) trained by Denis Gerard Hogan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount idled when in front in the closing stages.
An extended handicap for three years old and upwards rated 50-80 Weights - Top weight in the original handicap and after the time of declaration shall not be less than 10st 2lbs and the minimum weight shall not be less than 8st 6lbs Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 6lb extra for each race won.
