Following the race, Trevor Whelan reported that Gates Pass (GB), placed sixth, was slowly away and never travelling and the representative of Brian Barr added that the gelding was unsuited by the going, which was officially described as Soft, Good to Soft in places on this occasion, and would prefer a sounder surface.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Gates Pass (GB) shortly after the race failed to reveal any abnormalities.
