After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, O’Neill’s explanation that the gelding was fractious in the stalls, preventing him from untucking the blind, causing it to become stuck when the start was affected and requiring 2 attempts to remove was noted.
An enquiry was held to consider interference approximately 1 ½ furlongs out when Saint Lawrence (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Jack Mitchell, interfered with Annaf (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Jim Crowley, who in turn interfered with Great Ambassador (GB), placed sixth, ridden by Saffie Osborne.
Mitchell was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as he allowed his mount to shift left-handed under a right-hand drive resulting in Crowley having to take a significant check and, in the process, bump Great Ambassador (GB).
Approaching the final furlong, First Folio (GB), unplaced, was hanging badly left-handed, despite the rider’s best efforts, resulting in Lampang (IRE), unplaced, becoming short for room, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Following the race, Harry Davies reported that Chil Chil (GB), unplaced, hung left-handed, and David Allan reported that Lampang, unplaced, stumbled leaving the stalls.
Trevor Whelan reported that Able Kane (GB), unplaced, was restless in the stalls and then stumbled leaving the stalls resulting in him losing his right iron before recovering if shortly after.
The Veterinary Officer reported that Whenthedealinsdone (GB), unplaced, had bled from the nose.
