The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, P.L. Malone, that D.M. Redmond, rider of Nightly Wailing, had weighed in at 1.5lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he had a small drink and an energy bar after weighing out but felt that the excess weight was mostly due to his mount having sweated heavily during the race. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that D.M. Redmond was in breach of Rule 231 and therefore cautioned him having taken his good previous record into consideration. G.P. Halpin, rider of Dawerann trained by Gordon Elliott, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was slowly away out of stalls.
