Yorkist (IRE) lost his right-hind shoe on the way to post.
As Dan Skelton had indicated at declaration that the gelding should not be withdrawn in the event that he shed a plate, Yorkist (IRE) was able to run.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race following an incident at the final fence involving the winner, Diego du Charmil (FR), ridden by Lorcan Williams, which interfered with Capeland (FR), placed fifth, ridden by Bryony Frost, and resulted both horses appearing to take the incorrect course.
Williams, Frost, and the Senior Inspector of Courses were interviewed and shown recordings of the incident.
A representative of Paul Nicholls, the trainer of both horses, was also present in the enquiry.
The Stewards found that Diego du Charmil (FR), although jumping the boss of the fence, had taken the correct course, but that Capeland (FR) had taken the incorrect course as he had gone in between the boss of the fence and the wing and in doing so, had not jumped any part of the fence.
The Stewards therefore disqualified Capeland (FR) and revised the placings as follows: Fifth, Hatcher (IRE); Sixth, Speredek (FR).
The Stewards found that the interference was accidental in that Diego du Charmil (FR) had appeared to follow the loose horse in front and hung quickly left-handed despite the rider’s best efforts, taking Capeland (FR) considerably off its intended line.
As Capeland (FR) had been disqualified for taking the incorrect course, the Stewards were unable to consider the placings in respect of the interference.
