An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Gennady (IRE), ridden by Jonathan England and trained by Sam England, which raced in rear throughout to finish fifth of five beaten 24½ lengths.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated his instructions were to drop in and get the gelding settled and jumping as he has raced keenly in the past.
He added that the gelding was having its first run over fences following a 438 day break and that he was outpaced due to the strong early pace and was never travelling comfortably.
He added that having been inconvenienced by a faller, he had then asked the gelding for an effort along the woodside and into the home straight, and that in his opinion he had obtained the best possible placing.
England’s explanations were noted.
