John J Fitzpatrick, rider of May Down trained by J. Woods, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his saddle slipped soon after the start. The Stewards interviewed Mr P.J. Cawley, rider of Messie, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr P.J. Cawley was in breach of R10(3)(b) by the continued hitting of a horse after it's chance of winning or being placed was clearly gone and consequently suspended him for 1 raceday having taken his recent record into consideration. Furthermore the Stewards advised Mr P.J. Cawley concerning his responsibility to report at first instance anything that may have affected his mounts performance. The Stewards interviewed Mr J.P. Dowling, rider of Zagress, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr J.P.
