The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Pyromaniac, ridden by D.F. O'Regan, and trained by A.J.Martin. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. D.F. O'Regan, rider, stated that he was instructed to take his time, get cover, ride a race and to do his best. In running he was aware that three of the runners would go a strong pace and he rode off the pace leading the remainder of the runners. He added that his stable companion fell at Ballyhack and from that point he was in third place and tried to get closer. As the pace had been strong from the start he expected the leaders to come back to him but in turn his own mount emptied and he did not use the whip as there was no point . A.J.Martin, trainer, confirmed the instructions and described his charge as one that flatters to deceive. He felt that he did not get the two miles one furlong on today's heavy ground and in general possibly just gets two miles. He added that he thought his charge was gradually closing on the two leaders before the home turn but in the end had run as good as he was. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Pyromaniac was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations but advised D.F. O'Regan that he must be seen to be riding in accordance with the new provisions to Rule 212(A)(ii).
