I couldn't have dreamt it would have taken him that long to win his maiden as he always had an easy way of doing things. It was bad going not to win a bumper with him but maybe he's just a hurdler,. He ran very well the first day (over hurdles) at Catterick as it turns out, as the winner won a Grade 3 race afterwards and the fourth horse also won subsequently. Today was a soft race but he could do no more than he did and he jumped great. He wants better ground and we'll step him up in trip and I hope stepping him up in trip will improve him. The lads (J&T Partnership) would love to go to Aintree with him as they go there every year so we'll put him in the 2m4f handicap the first day and see what handicap mark he gets before making our minds up. The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Amram, ridden by E. O'Connell, and trained by Patrick Neville. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. E. O'Connell, stated that his instructions were to jump off in fifth or sixth position and to try and to run his best possible race. E O' Connell further stated that he was not satisfied with how the race rode for him as his mount was slowly off at the start, jumped poorly and lugged throughout the race. He did state that his mount improved coming up to the third last hurdle and passed tired horses. Patrick Neville, stated that this was his charge's first ever run. He confirmed the instructions given to E

O'Connell and stated that he was satisfied with how his charge finished considering that it was his first run, he has had problems in the past and that he may be better suited to fences over a longer distance. The Stewards also received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer who stated that Amram was stiff post race. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanation offered, however reminded E. O'Connell of the importance of being seen to make a substantial effort in future.

A hurdle race for five yrs old and upwards, maidens at starting
Weights - 11st 12lb; Mares allowed 7lb
Allowances - Horses that have not won a *race allowed 8lb *Including flat races under any National Hunt Rules or Rules of Racing
Riders - Confined to Professional who have not lost their right to claim the allowance under Rule 52 (iii) Allowances (up to and including 21st March) who have not ridden the winners of 25 **races allowed 4lb who have not ridden the winners of 40 **races allowed 2lb These allowances are not cumulative and no allowance to riders under Rule 52 (iii) may be claimed.
