Permission was given for Breizh River (FR) to wear a red hood in the preliminaries, and for Lemoine (GB) to be mounted on the track and go to post early.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Mount Gallion (IRE), ridden by Tom Midgley and trained by Mark Walford, which was held up in rear and raced on and off the bridle from 4 out, and appeared to be considerately handled from the second last hurdle, to finish fifth of eight runners, beaten 8¼ lengths.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Handicapper offered observations.
The rider stated his instructions were to drop the gelding in, do his best and make his effort turning into the home straight.
He felt that the gelding had emptied momentarily having jumped the fourth last hurdle.
He added that having jumped 3 out, Mount Gallion (IRE) stayed on in his opinion past tired horses before meeting trouble in running when another runner jumped across his path at the last hurdle, causing him to switch his running line.
Midgley therefore felt he had obtained the best possible placing.
His explanation was noted and Mount Gallion (IRE) was routine tested.
