The Stewards wished to hold an enquiry into the use of the whip by Sean Davis, the rider of Knowing Glance (IRE), placed third, but were unable to do so as Davis had left the course.
They adjourned their enquiry to a date to be notified to the rider.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Puerto Banus (GB), ridden by Robbie Walsh and trained by Ian Williams, which was slowly away and raced in a detached last place through the early stages, before staying on under apparent tender handling inside the final 3 furlongs, to finish eighth, beaten by 6¾ lengths.
The rider and the representative of the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that two post-race examinations of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities other than Puerto Banus (GB) had coughed on a few occasions.
The rider stated his instructions were to jump the gelding out, get a handy position and ride the race from there to obtain the best possible placing.
Walsh explained that Puerto Banus (GB) had been slowly away, a fact he had reported at Scales, and that he was unaware how far out of his ground he had allowed the gelding to get early on.
He added that after realising Puerto Banus (GB) had become detached from the main division he had ridden the gelding along vigorously in order to make up ground down the back straight and Puerto Banus (GB) had come back on the bridle and travelled well passing the 4 furlong marker.
He further added that he was happy with his position near the 3 furlong marker where he was following Javelin (GB), a fancied runner, and had asked Puerto Banus (GB) to quicken entering the home bend where the gelding responded to his urgings and made ground before Walsh admitted to being less vigorous in the final furlong when he felt the race had already got away from him.
The trainer’s representative confirmed the instructions and that the ride had not accorded with them after Puerto Banus (GB) had missed the break.
He added that aspects of the ride concerned him in that Puerto Banus (GB) had been allowed to get too far out of its ground.
Walsh was suspended for 21 days in that he had failed to ride his mount in such a way that he could be seen to ask for timely, real and substantial effort to obtain the best possible placing.
At the request of the Integrity Department of the British Horseracing Authority, the apparent improvement in form of the winner, Inaam (IRE), compared with its previous run at Kempton Park on 11 September 2019 where the gelding finished tenth of thirteen, beaten by 10 lengths, was considered.
John Butler was interviewed.
His comments that Inaam (IRE) had been freshened up by a 73 day break and been working well at home as well as appreciating the return to Wolverhampton where the gelding has a good record and had dropped to its last winning mark, were noted.
Inaam (IRE) was routine tested.
Following the race, Hollie Doyle reported that Onebaba (IRE), placed second, was slowly away.
The Veterinary Officer reported that Javelin (GB), which started second favourite and finished unplaced, lost its left hind shoe.
