An eventful climax of this one handed the race to Hairy Molly whose jumping will have to improve before he is to be competitive in a higher class of race. The winner was certainly the most fortunate of the day as Classic Vic appeared to have it all wrapped up until he skidded after the last and eventually unshipped Robert Power who nearly performed a miracle in maintaining the partnership.
Classic Vic went along at the head of affairs and jumped well under the Grand National winning jockey and he appeared to have put in a sterling performance until coming to grief.
Hairy Molly got in close to the second fence before being hampered at the next. He took the odd chance at his fences but battled on to the line to hold off Offaly and Knocknagow Leader who both ran on at the death.
Connections of the winner look set to target a Grade 3 at either Navan or Cork for their next assignment but jumping may have to improve if he is to be successful.
Patrick Griffin trainer of Fort Of Wells reported to the Stewards that his charge - who was last - "never travelled on the ground,"
