Rounding the first bend, Contrebasse (GB), placed sixth, edged slightly left causing Aislabie (FR), unplaced, to become unbalanced which resulted in the riders of Motahassen (IRE), placed fourth, and War Brigade (FR), placed seventh, having to take off heels, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved and it had not improved the placing of Contrebasse (GB).
Following the race, Harry Russell reported that Enemy Of The State (IRE), placed eighth, hung left under pressure.
