ALPHALOU, a nine-year-old maiden with a couple of third placings to her name, sprung a 20/1 surprise here. Leading two out under amateur Sean Byrne, for his father and namesake, a Castledermot restricted license holder, the chestnut was soon clear, staying on really well to account for MIKEY JOE.
The runner-up attracted market-support on his handicap debut when finishing fourth last time and again here he was popular (8/1 into 13/2). It wouldn't be any great shock if an opening was found for this Supreme Leader gelding.
ARKMORE RADAR, not surprisingly had little more to offer when headed, after striking on quite forcefully in front going to six out. He remains of interest off his current rating in this sphere. ACIDICE got a notebook entry coming home well on his initial foray in a handicap (after a running and riding enquiry ? explanations noted). OXPOW LAKES was another doing his best work at the finish. ROAD RUNNER didn't perform up to recent form as favourite. DREAM OF TOMORROW (lame) and Wilde Flyer (lame) were the two non-runners here.
An extended handicap hurdle for four yrs old and upwards rated 77-90 Penalties - Winner of a hurdle race after calculation of the handicap to carry 6lb extra for each hurdle race won.
