The Stewards interviewed J.F. Levins, trainer, concerning the failure to nominate a rider before the designated time for Bainne. Evidence was heard from the trainer who stated that he was unable to secure a suitable rider by the time of closing of nominations of riders and left the position blank in the hope that another runner may become a withdrawal and that rider could be considered as a suitable person. He added that he decided to request permission today for his own Apprentice Jockey S.B. Kirrane to ride as he was familiar with the filly. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that J.F. Levins was in breach of Rule 195 and R3 and therefore fined him ?200 having taken his previous record into consideration. Mr John Murphy, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry.
