An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final 2 furlongs when the winner, Royal Regent (GB), ridden by Paddy Mathers, interfered with Oot Ma Way (FR), placed second, ridden by Andrew Mullen.
After taking into account where the interference occurred in relation to the winning line together with Royal Regent (GB) going away at the line to win by ½ length, the Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Royal Regent (GB)’s placing and therefore ordered the placings to remain unaltered.
The interference was found to be accidental in that Royal Regent (GB) shifted quickly right-handed before being immediately corrected by Mathers, causing Mullen to have to take a check.
The performance of Brazen Prince (GB), which finished last of the twelve runners, beaten by 37½ lengths, was considered.
It was noted that the representative of Richard Fahey could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance on this occasion and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Brazen Prince (GB) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
