Permission was given for Crocodile Power (IRE) and MADISONELLE to go early to post.
Just inside the final furlong, the winner, Smalleytime (IRE), hung right-handed intimidating ELIZABETH’S JOY, placed third, off its intended line causing the rider of Anif (IRE), placed fifth, to ease for several strides, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Smalleytime (IRE).
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line when the winner, Smalleytime (IRE), ridden by Andrew Breslin, interfered with Barossa (IRE), placed second, ridden by Faye McManoman.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Smalleytime (IRE)’s placing as the ground and momentum lost by Barossa (IRE) was less than the winning margin of a head and in close proximity to the winning line.
Breslin was cautioned for careless riding as he allowed his mount to shift left-handed without sufficient correction carrying Barossa (IRE) slightly off its intended line.
The winner, Smalleytime (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Newcastle on 17 February 2024 where the gelding finished last of eight, beaten by 7 ¾ lengths.
It was noted that Ben Haslam could offer no explanation for the gelding’s improved form.
Smalleytime (IRE) was routine tested.
Following the race, Tom Eaves reported that Anif (IRE), placed fifth, suffered interference just inside the final furlong.
