Permission was given for Brother McGonagall (GB) to go early to post and be mounted in the chute.
Brother McGonagall (GB) had collided with the racecourse railings on leaving the parade ring.
Having been checked by the Veterinary Surgeon at the start, the rig was deemed fit to race.
P J McDonald, the rider of Young John (IRE), drawn 10, was slow to remove the blindfold resulting in his horse being slow to start.
McDonald’s explanation that the blind was tucked tightly into the bridle and took two attempts to remove it was noted.
The performance of Yankee Stadium (IRE), which started favourite and finished fifth, beaten by 20½ lengths, was considered.
The explanation from the representative of George Scott, that the gelding was unsuited by the Good to Soft, Good in places going which, in their opinion was riding softer than described, and would prefer a sounder surface, was noted.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination, during routine testing of Yankee Stadium (IRE), failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The going was subsequently changed to Good to Soft following this race.
