Permission was given for Hesslewood (IRE) to go early to post.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Dalgarno (FR), ridden by Paul Mulrennan, which was held up in rear, before running on in the closing stages to finish seventh of ten, beaten by 3 ¾ lengths.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The rider stated that his instructions were to ride the gelding as he found it, bearing in mind that it had run too freely in the past.
Mulrennan continued that he was happy to drop his mount in as he felt that the other runners had gone off too quickly and that Dalgarno (FR) had hung right-handed at various stages throughout the race, a fact which he had reported at scales.
Mulrennan further added that the gelding had an awkward head carriage and, in his opinion, would be suited by running over a longer trip and a more galloping track.
His explanation was noted.
Approaching the final furlong, Hesslewood (IRE), placed second, shifted left-handed at the same time that the winner, Hortzadar (GB), moved right-handed, causing Danyah (IRE), placed third, to be crowded for room and for its rider to take a slight check, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of either Hesslewood (IRE) or Hortzadar (GB).
Following the race, Dane O'Neill reported that Danyah (IRE), placed third, was denied a clear run approximately 2 ½ furlongs out.
