The winner, Late Arrival (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Pontefract on 6 June 2022 where the gelding finished ninth of thirteen beaten by 10 ½ lengths.
David Easterby’s explanation that the gelding was better suited by being drawn wide and benefited from being ridden prominently was noted.
Late Arrival (IRE) was routine tested.
The performance of True Mason (GB), which finished sixth, was considered.
Declan Carroll could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance.
The Clerk of Scales reported that Barry McHugh, the rider of Stalingrad (GB), placed second, had been unable to weigh in owing to overshooting the finish and being severely delayed having led the horse back.
The Stewards were satisfied that the correct weight had been carried throughout the race and confirmed the placing of Stalingrad (GB).
Following the race, Paul Hanagan reported that Custodian (IRE), unplaced, jumped awkwardly from the stalls and hung left-handed.
