Bryan Smart had obtained prior permission from the BHA to run Antagonize (GB) partially shod.
Permission was given for Antagonize (GB) to be mounted in the chute, go early, and be led to post and for both Gordonstoun (IRE) and CAN’T STOP NOW (IRE) to wear a red hood to the start.
The winner, Fourth Time Lucky (IRE) appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at York on 4 September 2022 where the gelding finished ninth of fifteen, beaten by 10¾ lengths.
It was noted that the representative of Richard Fahey could offer no explanation for Fourth Time Lucky (IRE)’s improved form on this occasion.
The performance of Antagonize (GB), which started joint-favourite and finished unplaced, was considered.
It was noted that the representative of Bryan Smart could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance other than a report from Harrison Shaw that Antagonize (GB) weakened quickly from 2½ furlongs out.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding, during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The performance of Gordonstoun (IRE), which finished last of the eleven runners, beaten by 42¾ lengths, was considered.
It was noted that the representative of Liam Bailey could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance on this occasion.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Gordonstoun (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Following the race, Faye McManoman reported that the saddle slipped on Dougies Dream (IRE), unplaced, approximately 1½ furlongs out and the gelding also hung right-handed.
