Permission was given for Classical Wave (GB) to wear a hood in the Parade Ring only and for Mordred (IRE) to wear a red hood to the start.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final ½ furlong when the winner, Classical Wave (GB), ridden by Daniel Muscutt, interfered with Maiden Castle (GB), placed second, ridden by David Probert.
Considering where the incident occurred in relation to the winning line, with Maiden Castle (GB) receiving significant pressure against the rail from Classical Wave (GB) as a result, with a fast-diminishing short head between them at the line, the Stewards were satisfied that on the balance of probabilities, the interference had improved Classical Wave (GB)’s placing and therefore revised the placings as follows.
First: Maiden Castle (GB), Second: Classical Wave (GB), Third: Hotspur Harry (IRE), Fourth: Canal Rocks (GB).
Muscutt was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he allowed his horse to move right-handed without correction, continuously intimidating and giving several bumps to Maiden Castle (GB) against the rail from the final ½ furlong until the winning line.
Following the race, Nicola Currie reported that WATER’S EDGE (IRE), placed fifth, hung left-handed and Joshua Bryan reported that the saddle slipped on Zambezi Magic (GB) after 1 furlong out causing him to have to pull the gelding up in the home straight.
