Approximately ½ furlong out, the winner, Marching Army (GB), drifted right-handed before being quickly corrected shifting March Law (IRE), placed third, off its intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Marching Army (GB).
An enquiry was held to consider interference on the line when March Law (IRE), placed third, ridden by Joe Fanning, interfered with Protected Guest (GB), placed fifth, ridden by Jane Elliott.
Fanning was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he switched left when insufficiently clear causing Elliott to take a check.
Darragh Keenan, the rider of Pistoletto (USA), placed fourth, was also interviewed but found not be involved.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Pistoletto (USA), ridden by Darragh Keenan and trained by John Ryan, who appeared to be asked for a delayed effort, finishing fourth of eleven, beaten by 1 ¾ lengths.
Keenan was interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Pistoletto (USA) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Keenan stated that his instructions were to hold up the gelding in mid-field with cover and to bring it through for a late run, challenging through horses.
He explained that he has ridden and won on the gelding previously when riding in a similar manner and, in his experience, it needs to be kept on the bridle for as long as possible.
He added that, in his opinion, due to the slow early pace the field was compacted, preventing him from obtaining a clear run until the final stages of the race, a fact which he reported to scales.
He continued that after obtaining a clear run Pistoletto (USA) picked up and finished strong in the closing stages.
His explanation was noted.
