Permission was given for Symbol of Hope (GB) to go early to post wearing a red hood and to be mounted in the chute.
Further permission was given for Gherkin (GB) to wear a red hood to post and to be mounted in the chute.
The winner SARAH’S VERSE, appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Chepstow on 10 June 22 where the mare finished ninth of twelve, beaten by 8 lengths.
Ronald Harris’ explanation that SARAH’S VERSE had benefited from the step back in trip to 5 furlongs, from 6 furlongs was noted and the mare was routine tested.
An enquiry was held to consider interference approaching the final furlong involving Gherkin (GB), placed third, ridden by Rob Hornby, Symbol of Hope (GB), placed fourth, ridden by Ray Dawson and FOR PEAT’S SAKE, unplaced, ridden by Silvestre De Sousa.
Dawson was found in breach of careless riding as after Gherkin (GB) had drifted slightly right, he shifted Symbol of Hope (GB) right for a run when insufficiently clear of FOR PEAT’S SAKE, resulting in De Sousa to take a check.
As the Stewards considered the offence warranted a suspension and taking into account that Dawson had already been suspended for 20 days or more within the previous 6 months, the Stewards referred Dawson to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority.
Following the race, Ray Dawson reported that Symbol of Hope (GB), placed fourth, hung right-handed throughout.
