A query was raised as to why David O’Meara was running Oso Rapido (IRE) here at Catterick on going described as Soft, having declared the gelding a non-runner at Haydock on 18 July 2020 on ground with the same official description.
The trainer’s representative stated that she has walked the course at Catterick and in her opinion, the ground is not as soft as it had been at Haydock.
However, following the race, Daniel Tudhope reported that Oso Rapido (IRE) was unsuited by the soft going, and O’Meara’s representative confirmed that on this occasion the ground had ridden softer than anticipated pre-racing.
An enquiry was held to consider interference leaving the back straight involving John Clare (IRE), placed fourth, ridden by Rob Hornby and Indian Viceroy (GB), unplaced, ridden by Cam Hardie.
Hornby was cautioned for careless riding as he failed to take sufficient steps to stop his mount from edging left causing Indian Viceroy (GB) to be momentarily short of room.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Top Buck (IRE), unplaced, lost both its front shoes.
