Permission was given for Horst (IRE) to go to post early.
The winner, Crack Du Ninian (FR), appeared to show an improvement in form, compared with its previous run at Ayr on 11 November 2020 where the gelding finished fifth of nine beaten 29 lengths.
The representative of Jennie Candlish explained that in hindsight the race may have come too soon for the gelding last time out.
His explanation was noted.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Getaway Jewel (IRE), ridden by Miss Becky Smith and trained by Micky Hammond, which was held up and tenderly ridden from the third-last to then stay on and finish fourth of nine, beaten 4¾ lengths.
The rider and the trainer's representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated her instructions were to ride the gelding as she found him and to ride him to obtain the best possible placing.
She added that she had held the gelding up on this occasion, similarly to his run last time at Market Rasen.
Smith added that the gelding had developed a breathing problem in the back straight, which she had reported at scales on weighing in.
The trainer’s representative stated that she agreed that those were the instructions given, but added that she felt Smith had made insufficient effort from the back straight around to the finish.
Smith was suspended for 14 days, on dates to be notified to her by the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority, for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing in that she had failed to make timely, real or sufficient effort from approaching the third-last hurdle and during the remainder of the race.
Following the race, Thomas Dowson reported that Horst (IRE), placed seventh, ran too free.
