You can leave the weighroom, get to the start, make it up as you go along and he'll get you out of trouble. He's not flashy, he does what he has to do and that's probably why he keeps winning because he keeps a little bit in the locker. When you're riding him, you're confident on him and then you just have to keep him up to his work. We were wondering what tactics Jack would use and the game went according to how we thought it would go. He just did what he normally does, pulled it out when he needed to pull it out. Paul said there was a cameraman on the line and he stopped to have a look and prick his ears at him. That's the sort of horse he is, he's just got lots of talent and he keeps doing it which is huge. He's very uncomplicated, he's uncomplicated in his stable, he's an old pet. W P Mullins, trainer
The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident that occurred after the last hurdle involving Irish Point (FR), ridden by J.W. Kennedy, placed second, and State Man (FR), ridden by P. Townend, placed first, where it appeared Irish Point got tight for room on the inside. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. J.W. Kennedy said his mount jumped the hurdle well at the same time as State Man jumped right and as result he caught a heel. P
Townend said his horse jumped right the whole way throughout the race and on the run to the last he was conscious of this so was making his best effort to to keep his mount straight. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards found P. Townend was in breach of Rule 214 (careless riding) and having considered his record in this regard (second offence), the Raceday Stewards suspended him for four racedays. In arriving at their decision, the Raceday Stewards took into account that State Man jumped right throughout and therefore P. Townend should have been aware of the possibility of his horse jumping right causing interference after the last and as such, should have taken reasonable steps to avoid causing the interference.
