That’s his first run for us and just his fifth run in total. He looked a bit green in front but it was probably his first time to be in front. Hopefully he’ll improve a bit and pick up another one or two. We have plenty of speedy horses at home and he was travelling with them all, so we weren’t afraid to run him here over five. The Stewards interviewed R.P. Cleary, rider of Woodrow, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found R. P. Cleary in breach of regulation 10.3.(g), excessive frequency and 10.3.(i), time to respond. Having considered R. P. Cleary's record in this regard the Stewards suspended him for three racedays
The Stewards requested a report from Kieran P. Cotter, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Dandy Spirit, placed first, as compared with its recent form. Kieran P. Cotter stated that a drop back in trip had helped to bring about the apparent improvement in form. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation given.
An extended handicap for three years old and upwards rated 45-65 Weights - Top weight in the original handicap and after the time of declaration shall not be less than 10st 2lbs and the minimum weight is 8st 6lbs Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 6lb extra for each race won.
