An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference approaching the final furlong when Kentuckyconnection (USA), placed second, ridden by Nathan Evans, interfered with Serenading (GB), unplaced, ridden by Joe Fanning and Ghathanfar (IRE), placed third, ridden by Royston French.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Kentuckyconnection’S (USA) placing as Ghathanfar (IRE) was shifted off its intended line and its rider twice had to check off heels when coming with his run, before regathering his mount and running on to finish a fast-finishing third, beaten a diminishing neck by Kentuckyconnection for second.
The placings were revised as follows: Second- Ghathanfar (IRE), Third- Kentuckyconnection (USA).
The interference was found to be accidental as Kentuckyconnection (USA) hung quickly right-handed, despite the riders best efforts to correct the gelding, taking Serenading (GB) off its intended line, which in turn caused Ghathanfar (IRE) to be checked in its run.
Following the race, Ben Curtis reported that Double Martini (IRE), unplaced, hung left-handed throughout.
